It's summer time, and that means super hero movies, stories of epic adventure, love, heartbreak, and danger. We recognize our hero by the suits they wear - Superman's cape, Batman's mask, Iron Man's chest piece each hero has a distinguishing mark that sets them apart. Did you know that the Bible talks about a special outfit that we can wear for greatness too? The suit is described in the book of Ephesians (a letter written by Paul to the people in Ephesus after Jesus had risen from the dead).
Belt of Truth
Breastplate of Righteousness
Shoes of Peace
Shield of Faith
Sword of Truth
Helmet of Salvation
Although these items are described as pieces armour, they are invisible attributes that we can carry with us every day to be better followers of Christ.
1. Play dress up at home, or at a friend's house. See how many different characters or heroes you can create with different hats, capes, glasses, or props. Then think about what it would be like to have someone dress up like YOU. What kind of "costume" would they need to wear? Is the Armour of God something you put on regularly?
2. Spend time in the sun this week - but don't forget the sunscreen! Sunscreen helps protect our skin from the harmful rays of the sun, and it keeps us from getting burnt! The armour of God helps protect us too! The armour helps protect our hearts and our minds by reminding us of God's truth and love and sending us our to be followers of Christ. As you apply Sunscreen to your face, your arms and your legs imagine you are applying the armour of God. What were some of the pieces we learned about? Need a refresher?
