Sunday, July 9th - The Bible Is Our Map

Today we’ve got our maps and our magnifiers out as we try and figure out where our adventure will lead. What path should we take? Will there be obstacles? The map will help us follow the best path to our goal.
Did you know that the BIBLE is like a MAP in life? It’s God’s letter to us about how to live while we’re here on earth. It’s full of life lessons from people who have gone before us, and advice from people who talked directly to Jesus while he was here on earth. The Bible is our guide to navigating difficult situations like cheating and lying, it tells us how we should treat our enemy’s, what to do when we’re scared or lonely, who to look to when we are grieving, how we should respect our government and leaders, what we should do with our money, how we should treat our bodies, and who we should serve. The Bible also tells us how loved we are when we feel unloved, and it tells us that we are valued when we feel like we can’t seem to do anything right. The Bible is God’s letter full of love, encouragement, truth and wisdom.
Let’s face it, life on earth is TOUGH and we need the Bible to help us navigate the right path.
Scripture this morning is from 2 Timothy 3:16-17
All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.
The book of Timothy is actually a short letter written by Paul to remind Timothy and his church that even when troubles come, God is ultimately in control and promises eternal life to those who trust him. This part in the third chapter tells us how we should value the words in the Bible - they are all inspired by God! Paul is telling Timothy that when trouble comes (when obstacles get in our path) we should turn to the scripture for advice about what to do next. Just like a MAP helps us to avoid danger, the Bible helps us to choose the right path, the one that God is calling us to.
